Self Funded Surgery
Some specialists consulting through Great Southern Specialist Centre offer self funded surgery at Albany Day Hospital for selected procedures.
Self funding means you pay directly for your treatment rather than claiming through private health insurance.
For some patients, self funded surgery may provide an alternative pathway to access private treatment locally, particularly where private health insurance is not held.
Please note: If your surgeon is a Perth visiting specialist you will need to obtain information from their rooms as to private locations, procedures they have available and their associated costs.
How does self-funding work?
- Obtain a referral
Visit your GP or referring practitioner and obtain a referral to the appropriate specialist
- Attend a Consultant
Book an appointment with your specialist and check that they offer self-funding.
- Receive Cost Estimates
Prior to proceeding, you will be provided with estimates of the expected costs associated with your procedure.
Depending on the procedure, these may include Surgeons fees, Anaesthetist fees and Albany Day Hospital fees.
- Informed Financial Consent
Before surgery is booked, you will receive an Informed Financial Consent outlining the expected costs of your procedure. This must be reviewed, signed and returned before your procedure can be confirmed.
- Payment
Payment of the estimated procedure costs is generally required at least 7 days prior to your scheduled procedure date. Payment instructions and due dates will be provided as part of your booking documentation. If you have any questions regarding payment arrangements, please contact our team.
- Surgery and Recovery
Your specialist will manage your care throughout the surgical journey, including consultation, surgery and follow up care.
If you hold a valid Medicare card, you may be entitled to claim some money back. Your specialist and the hospital admissions team will advise before treatment if you are eligible to claim.
Medicare Rebates
If you hold a valid Medicare card, you may be eligible for Medicare rebates on some specialist and anaesthetic fees. Eligibility and rebate amounts vary depending on the procedure being performed.
Our admin team or visiting specialist’s rooms and the Albany Day Hospital admissions team can provide further information regarding any available rebates.
