Our aim is to work collaboratively with specialists already working in the region and attract more visiting specialists to build all specialist services to meet the growing demands of the community.
Recent data has demonstrated the gaps in services and common trends of people having to travel to Perth from Albany for specialist treatment. This information has highlighted the largest gaps in Gynaecology, Rheumatology, ENT, Orthopaedics, Neurology and Paediatrics.
The team at the Great Southern Specialist Centre are working on these identified areas to address the range of specialties offered as well as the increasing the availability of specialists themselves. If you are interested in practicing through the Great Southern Specialist Centre – please contact our Practice Manager for further information.
The opening of the Albany Day Hospital in 2019 has been a welcome addition to services in the Great Southern, supporting the rapidly growing health care needs of our community. It is important to talk to your specialist about your options and the services they provide.
Private Health Insurance
If you have appropriate private health insurance cover or choose to self-fund you have the option of having specific day procedures done at the Albany Day Hospital such as colonoscopy, endoscopy, gastroscopy, hernia repair, excision of lesions, vasectomy, carpal tunnel and ophthalmology procedures.
Please check with your health insurer to ensure you have the appropriate level of cover and have served appropriate waiting periods prior to your appointment to reduce delays in securing a procedure date.
If you require an overnight stay, do not have private insurance, or elect to be admitted as a public patient, your procedure will be performed at a public hospital i.e. Albany, Katanning, Esperance, and your wait time will be determined by clinical urgency and waitlist criteria.
